Family Portraits - a lifetime journey
This is a blog post that was inspired by one of our longtime family clients, Stephanie. We have been working with Stephanie and her family for a couple of years now and I have to say it is so gratifying to be helping her build her 'family wall' of portraits!
One of the things we often stress about family portraiture is that it is a journey, not a one-time event. The photography should never only be about how you and your family look but tell the story of your life along the way. It is doubly important when there are children in the family like little Ashleigh who you see in these portraits.
Several things about this wall really jump out at me, and the first one is planning! Coordinating colors in clothes, consistent style of photography and even framing, makes this wall look completely deliberate - a true designer touch in the home.
The other important thing to notice is that not every image on the wall was done in my studio. As we stress very strongly to our families, it is SO important to print your personal images to provide a complete story of the moments that you capture that are absolutely irreplaceable.
Shannon and I can't wait for the next installment on the wall!
This type of project is one of the biggest reasons we created our monthly 'Cafe la Photographie' sessions - to help families with their own photographic legacies.
If you have a project like this in your home, or would like to start one and don't know where to begin, why not attend our next 'Cafe la Photographie' session? They are absolutely free and we'd love to have you - just RSVP at this link.
