Let's face it, once October rolls around the calendar is against you.
It seems like summer hasn't even ended and boom - you're bombarded by marketing for multiple holidays all at once. I'm sure this upsets quite a few people, but there's a reason that it works out this way: there are a few things that matter to families and they all cluster around the holiday season.
- One - families realize that their time together is precious. Families get together at holidays.
- Two - Photography is such a powerful way to capture those fleeting moments. It allows us to freeze time and revisit those memories, whether it’s a child’s milestones, family gatherings, or even the little everyday moments.
The challenge is that the occasions we have traditionally chosen to celebrate and remember all cluster during about a month and a half period at the end of the year.
The season gives you very little time to accomplish quite a lot.
Because it's the time of year that people tend to spend the most, marketing of course, will capitalize on the opportunity. Thats natural.
The tricky part is trying to focus on the things you know you'll regret if you DON'T do them.
You will never regret doing family photography.
And family photography is one of those things that tends to get shuffled down the priority list for a few reasons. It's actually a bit of a logistical challenge to just get the family together in one place to have it done.
Creating the photograph is easy compared to getting everyone dressed, together in the same place and happy - I get it!
What's important to remember is that if you don't go to the trouble, you just never know what you'll miss.
And let's not forget the investment; it is always a consideration. When thinking about this, the reward is the offset - Top quality family portraits will last for generations - even longer in many cases than families live in one home.
There's always a way. Didn't that new iPhone that will only last about 4 years find a way to get purchased?
As Nike said so perfectly; just do it. You'll never regret it.
