Think about how it has been when you have come across old family photos. What questions did you have?
Typical questions include: Where was this taken? When was this taken?
Answer those questions for your future viewer when you create the image!
For the ‘where’, you have some visual options. Think about locations that will matter in future years; the home where the subject lived, a favorite car that will be remembered, a favorite personal recreational place - anywhere that matters to the SUBJECT of the photo! ‘Pretty Places’ are nice, but will look just like everyone else's images and have less personal impact many years from now than a photo in the context of a place that mattered at the time the image was created.
The ‘when’ can be a bit more of a challenge, but give it a little thought. Is there anything available that can date a photo visually without relying on writing the date on the print? Events are easier, there are usually date related visuals like a birth or graduation announcement for instance. Be creative and work some of these into the shot - speak visually and have fun with it!
